RE: Student Conduct Board Hearing August 19, 2014, 10:00am MT

Dear Mr. xxxxx,

The Student Conduct Board will meet on August 19, 2014 to hear concerns and review information that you have violated the Code of Student Conduct, specifically:

III.B.2 Disruption or obstruction of advising, facilitation, instruction, research, administration, disciplinary proceedings or other WGU activities.

III.B.3 Harassment, including stalking, threatening, bullying or verbal abuse of any member of the WGU community by any means (conduct, speech, written notes, electronic mail, etc.). This includes, but is not limited to, the use of threats, profanity, demeaning or intimidating comments, pornography, and unwanted personal or sexual advances.

A full summary of the evidence supporting these charges is provided as an attachment to this notice.

The Student Conduct Board will hold a hearing to consider the information and determine what sanctions, if any, will be imposed by the university. Student Conduct Board hearings are held via teleconference.  You may provide a statement to the Board in writing no later than August 14, 2014. You are also entitled to attend the hearing; while you are not required to attend the hearing, participation is strongly encouraged.  Please be aware that if you choose not to attend, the information will be presented and a decision will be rendered in your absence.

You are also entitled to assistance by an advisor; your advisor must be a member of the WGU community including, for example, your mentor.  You are responsible for presenting your own information, and therefore, your advisor will not be permitted to speak or to participate directly in the hearing unless requested by the Board.  You should select as an advisor a person whose schedule allows attendance at the scheduled date and time for the hearing; delays will not be allowed due to the scheduling conflicts of an advisor.

If you intend to participate in the hearing, please confirm your intent via email toconductadmin@wgu.edu. Include the telephone number where you can be reached during this time period and your advisor’s information should you choose to have one. The Student Conduct Board will call you when the hearing begins (note that the time is approximate). The hearing will be recorded, with the exclusion of the Board’s deliberations. Your confirmation email must be received no later thanAugust 14, 2014. If your confirmation is not received by that time, the Student Conduct Administrator will assume that you will not attend the hearing.

If you need accommodations for a disability during the hearing, please notify this office as soon as possible, but no later than August 14, 2014.

At the conclusion of the hearing, the Student Conduct Board may dismiss the incident or, based on the nature of the violation and information received, impose one or more of the sanctions listed in the Code of Student Conduct, including but not limited to:

  • Deferral of decision while additional information is gathered
  • Level 2 Warning
  • Discretionary Sanction
  • Disciplinary Suspension
  • Disciplinary Expulsion from WGU
You will be notified of the Board’s decision within 5 business days of the conclusion of the hearing.  This decision may be appealed to the WGU Appellate Board within 5 business days if you believe that information not available at the time of the hearing would substantially change the outcome. Your request for an appeal along with supporting information should be sent to the Student Conduct Administrator at conductadmin@wgu.edu. The decision of the Appellate Board will be final.

Sincerely,

Anika Webb, MA
